When we buy your product we want to know we'll be getting a quality item that's worth the money. It's not like a store where we can pick it up and hold it, so a professional photo can help us get a feel for it without being able to touch it. Also, having good photos of your product and/or service shows that you take pride in your work and adds value to what you offer.
Money can be tight when you are trying to establish yourself however there are some things you just can’t cut corners on otherwise it will reflect badly upon your business. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have good quality professional pictures of your product! Photos that are blurry, grainy, poorly composed with bad lighting and harsh shadows will cheapen your product. It may cost a bit more to hire a photographer however in the long run it will give you a better return on your investment.
I recommend having a professional photographer take pictures not only of your product but for any image you will include in the website. For example:
Below are a two examples of my clients that subcontracted a professional photographer through me for product shots.
http://www.twinberryfarms.com - Product shot on blueberries and head shots of owners
http://www.eatlocalfood.ca/gifttrays - All product shots for gift trays and add-ons
As you can see, it makes a difference having professional pictures to represent your product/service. It conveys trust, quality, and professionalism and simply makes it more appealing. It will take your product from "hmm that looks interesting" to "oh wow I want one of those!"
